We drove down to Cypremort Point State Park which is a little over a 2-hour drive from New Orleans. This is the closest you can get to the Gulf of Mexico, except Grand Isle on south Louisiana’s eastern side.
While there is no camping at this park, they do have six cabins for rent. This is pretty much a strip of land nestled up to a little bay on the gulf. It’s a good spot for fishing or having a picnic.
There is still some damage from Louisiana’s 2020 of hurricanes. Some of the shelters were damaged. It’s really windy down there and I’m sure hot in the summertime as there is very little for shade. The picnic shelters offer some protection from the wind and sun.
It is good spot to relax by the water and look out into the Gulf. There are even some small shells to be found along the shoreline. All in all, a nice day trip outside New Orleans.
