Staycation – Home in New Orleans

Sometimes you can’t get away and sometimes it’s really hot in New Orleans and you need a pool. This is when a staycation can be the answer.

While we live a very short distance to the French Quarter (walking distance on Mardi Gras Day), we do not own a pool. Even if we wanted a pool, our yard is more like courtyard size and a pool just won’t fit. At least once a summer, we take a staycation.

Our favorite place to staycation in the French Quater is Le Richelieu. Le Richelieu opened in 1965 and before that, it was the Federico Macaroni Factory. In its heyday, it was visited by stars like Paul McCartney and David Carradine. We like funky and a little bit old and this place suits the bill and it has a lovely pool. The first floor still has some of the kitsch from the 1960s with matching tiles and really old refrigerators, the stoves have long been unplugged.

The upper floors rooms are more traditional with mini refrigerators and look out onto the French Quarter.

If you like unconventional, a great location within walking distance to everything, a pool, a hotel bar on site, this is the jam. If you like more modern digs, keep looking.

The other things to take into account is Verti Marte delivers here and it is within walking distance of one of the best breakfast spots in New Orleans, Croissant D’or.

You can get rooms here at an affordable price if you book in advance.

Tips:
Some weekends in New Orleans require a 3-day stay due to festivals. You can sometimes search sites which will offer a shorter stay than the hotel site itself.

Take a dip, grab a drink at the bar and sit back and relax and get out of the heat.
